It is very sad as a person who has gone through war to have written this book to be passed down through the generations. The way he started by saying: 兵 者 , 國 之 大 事 , 死 生 之 地 , 存 亡 之 道, 不 可 不 察 也 。 (Translation: Warfare is the greatest affair of state, the basis of life and death, the way to survival or extinction. It must be thoroughly pondered and analyzed.” This is a very poor translation, but it will do for now.) I never understood why he started that way.
For a person who has gone through war, he must have many regrets in life. He must have loathed the conduct of war but was compelled by circumstances nonetheless to conduct it out of necessity.
For such a great man, I will try my best to understand him.
In life, there are many things that are regrettable. One of most regrettable things for a man in passing must be that he couldn't let his knowledge be borned by the ones that are closest to him.
For this reason alone, I am imparting this knowledge ... be patient ... more will be revealed in time ...
After this lesson, let the second lesson be my very own - 创世论。May those who benefited from this second lesson use it with care and concern to those that are truly closed to us.
